Smartie was the light of all of our lives. He was sweet, loving and protective to the extent that he seemed to think he was a Rottweiler!!
He would always be happy to see those he loved, and everyone that knew him loved him so much.
Right from the time we got him, up to probably the day before he passed, he would have these "maddies" where he would run around the house like a lunatic all hyperactive and excited...he was such a happy little soul...
I remember when we got him, the breeders had separated him from his Mother and Brothers and Sisters because he was "no good"- he had water on the brain, an over hang on his jaw, and epilepsy, but to us, he was perfect and the most beautiful boy ever...
We were also told he wouldn't live long, but he went on to have eight happy years with us! He eat the food we ate (fussy boy!), went on holiday to Scotland (where he had his first swimming lesson, and his first experience of sore paws from the long walks!!) I sat massaging his paws while he slept on my lap, such a lovely memory...
It's been almost three years since you passed Smart, and still everyday your in my thoughts and my heart, and not a day goes by that I don't wish you was still here with us, making us smile and laugh, and being able to cuddle you and love you again.
I hope your out of pain now, and happy again..and I know that one day I will see you again, because all dogs go to Heaven!!
Beyond the Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.
